Singapore restaurant apologizes after cooking seafood foraged at Changi

What's new: Singapore's food agency warned wild shellfish from public shores can carry bacteria, parasites and toxins that cooking may not remove.

Havelock Palace, a Chinese restaurant in Singapore, apologized after confirming it prepared and cooked marine life collected from the country's intertidal areas, including a haul shown in a viral video from Changi Beach. The backlash began after clips posted on Douyin and later shared on Facebook showed crabs, shellfish and molluscs being taken from the shore and brought to the restaurant's kitchen. The restaurant said it has tightened sourcing controls, barred unauthorized or unverified food from entering its kitchen, and retrained staff on food safety and handling. The Singapore Food Agency said there is no rule banning businesses from preparing customer-supplied wild catch, but warned marine life from public shores may carry bacteria, viruses, parasites, biotoxins and contaminants.
