Singapore reshuffle elevates younger ministers, keeps veterans in key posts

What's new: Four MPs from the 2025 election moved up, signaling a faster push to build a fifth-generation leadership bench.

Singapore's latest Cabinet reshuffle under Prime Minister Lawrence Wong promoted younger office-holders while leaving senior ministers in charge of major portfolios, a mix analysts said balances renewal with continuity. The changes, made public on July 22, gave bigger roles to several newer politicians from the 2025 General Election. Jasmin Lau was elevated to acting minister for manpower, while Jeffrey Siow and David Neo became full ministers and stayed in their ministries. Foo Cexiang and Shawn Loh were appointed ministers of state. Veteran figures also retained influence: K. Shanmugam became senior minister while keeping the home affairs and national security portfolios.
