Singapore pushes deeper China ties on green energy, AI and ageing
Why it matters: The plan links climate, productivity and eldercare as both countries head toward “super-aged” societies by 2030.
Singapore should expand cooperation with China in green transition, artificial intelligence and ageing, National Development Minister Chee Hong Tat said at the Lianhe Zaobao Singapore-China Forum 2026 on July 6. He pointed to China’s scale in renewable energy, battery storage, AI, robotics and intelligent manufacturing, and said Singapore could pair that with its strengths in sustainable urban planning and integrated development. Chee also framed AI cooperation around productivity and new jobs rather than only worker displacement, while warning that security, privacy and regulation must keep pace with faster technological change. On eldercare, he said both countries are set to become “super-aged” societies by 2030.
