Singapore probes helper’s fall during window cleaning in Sengkang
What’s new: The worker was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, and employers can face fines, jail or hiring bans for unsafe window-cleaning conditions.
Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower is investigating after a migrant domestic worker fell from height while cleaning windows at Block 121A Rivervale Drive in Sengkang on Oct. 8. The Singapore Civil Defence Force received a call at about 10:30 a.m. and took one person to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Images circulating online showed the woman on the ground near a squeegee and spray bottle as paramedics treated her. The ministry reminded employers that exterior window cleaning is allowed only under strict safeguards, including locked window grilles and adult supervision. Employers who fail to provide safe working conditions can be fined up to S$10,000, jailed for up to 12 months, or barred from hiring a helper.
