Singapore probes gas-like odor across central districts
What's new: Air readings stayed within normal ranges as residents from Kallang to Novena reported the smell for hours.
Singapore authorities are investigating a gas- or chemical-like smell reported across parts of the city-state's central region late July 16 and into July 17. The National Environment Agency said it began receiving feedback around 11 p.m. from areas including Tanjong Rhu, Kallang and Novena, and carried out on-site checks while monitoring nearby stations. The agency said air quality has remained within the usual range so far. Residents also posted reports from Suntec City, Balestier, Jalan Besar and Lavender, with some describing the odor as gasoline-like or sulphurous. NEA asked the public to submit reports through the myENV or OneService apps as it works to identify the source.
