Singapore probes 45 Changi firms over 270 worker pass breaches
What's new: Investigators found some Employment Pass holders doing baggage work, with false salary and job declarations suspected.
Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower is investigating about 45 companies involved in Changi Airport operations over suspected work pass offences, including false declarations and the illegal deployment of foreign workers. The ministry said about 270 workers employed by contractors and subcontractors of SATS may have been deployed in ways that breached pass rules. A recent inspection found Employment Pass holders doing baggage handling, and preliminary findings suggest some declared salaries and occupations were false. MOM ordered SATS to tighten checks on contractors and fix compliance gaps. SATS said it found irregularities in a routine internal audit, took action against non-compliant contractors and completed a broader review of its contractor workforce at the airport.
