Singapore police cut crime-scene work with 3D scans, drones
What's new: investigators said 3D scanners can recreate scenes in about a quarter of the time once needed for manual sketches.
Singapore police are using 3D scanners, drones and AI tools to document crime scenes faster and analyze evidence more efficiently, highlighting the shift with a review of a 2016 murder at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. Officers said the scanners create a digital twin of a scene that can be revisited later for measurements, while drones help capture large areas from above. In the 2016 case, investigators spent more than seven hours processing the scene and returned over several days for more details. Police said current 3D scanning could have reduced that work to about a quarter of the time. The force also demonstrated a mixed-reality training system developed with the Home Team Science and Technology Agency.
