Singapore parents plead guilty in abuse death of 8-month-old son
What’s next: Prosecutors want 14 to 15 years for the mother and 15 to 16 years for the father at sentencing on Oct. 21.
A Singapore couple pleaded guilty Monday to charges tied to the death of their 8-month-old son after months of repeated abuse. Chloe Gan Ci Xuan, 23, admitted causing Trevor Neo Yu Hin’s death, while Neo Jia Ming, 27, admitted allowing the child’s death and separate abuse charges. Court papers said the parents routinely shook, hit or smothered Trevor to stop him from crying, and neither intervened when the other hurt him. Trevor died after Gan hit him, smothered him and turned him face down on Sept. 1, 2024; he was pronounced dead at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital shortly after midnight the next day. The prosecution said the pair exchanged messages joking about the harm the shaking could cause.
