Singapore NSF among 3 fined RM3,500 in Johor illegal racing case
What's new: The convictions were among the first under Malaysia's amended road law, which took effect on Oct. 16.
A Malaysian court fined three motorcyclists RM3,500 each after they pleaded guilty to illegal racing on the Second Link Expressway in Johor Bahru, including a 19-year-old Singapore full-time national serviceman. Syajahan Alfian Abdullah was convicted on Nov. 3 over a high-speed contest at the 12.5-kilometer mark of the southbound expressway at about 2:10 a.m. on Oct. 18. The other two defendants, Malaysians Muhammad Daniel Hakim Mohamad Rashid, 24, and Gonzales Mckhovic Anak George, 18, admitted to racing on the northbound stretch. All three paid their fines and avoided a four-month jail term in default. Singapore's Ministry of Defence said Syajahan was in Malaysia in his personal capacity and that service personnel are expected to obey local laws.
