What's new: Sundaresh Menon will retire on Feb. 26, 2027, after 14 years leading court reforms and a digital overhaul.
Singapore will install Court of Appeal judge Sushil Nair as its fifth chief justice on Feb. 26, 2027, the day Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon retires after more than 14 years in the role. Menon, 64, took office in November 2012 and oversaw a broad remaking of the judiciary, including the courts' digital transformation, the creation of the Appellate Division of the High Court and expansion of the Singapore International Commercial Court. The Prime Minister's Office also credited him with improving access to justice and strengthening public confidence in the rule of law. Nair, 62, joined the bench in April 2025, became a High Court judge and was elevated to the Court of Appeal on June 15. Before that, he spent 35 years in legal practice, including at Drew & Napier.
