Singapore man pleads guilty over fake MBS fire bomb hoax
What's next: Prosecutors sought four to eight weeks in jail after the message triggered a police report and extra patrols at Marina Bay Sands.
A 35-year-old Singaporean man pleaded guilty Thursday to sending Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s Facebook page a doctored image showing Marina Bay Sands on fire, along with a message mentioning a bomb. Andie Tan Kok Yong admitted one charge of knowingly transmitting a false message under the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act. A second charge, accusing him of obstructing justice by factory-resetting his phone, will be considered at sentencing. Court documents said Tan sent the image on Sept. 29, 2025, as a prank even though he knew it was fake. The report prompted police action and increased security patrols at MBS. Sentencing was adjourned.
