Singapore makes 4 a.m. liquor hours permanent at river nightlife zones

What's new: Authorities approved 92 late-hour permits and 37 new nightlife-use applications during the year-long pilot.

Singapore will formalize a year-long pilot that let bars and other licensed venues in parts of Boat Quay, Clarke Quay and Upper Circular Road sell alcohol until 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The changes take effect Aug. 18, alongside continued approvals for new bars, pubs and nightclubs in the Boat Quay Historic District and planned road closures at Circular Road for events starting in October. Authorities said 37 applications for new nightlife uses were approved between August 2025 and June 2026, while police approved 92 applications for extended liquor hours across the three zones. The government said the law-and-order situation stayed stable during the pilot.
