Singapore impounds 3 devices in first PMA rules crackdown
What's new: the tougher June 1 rules cap PMA speeds at 6 kph and require some users to show a medical-need certificate.
Singapore authorities seized three devices from a non-compliant retailer in the first week after tighter personal mobility aid rules took effect on June 1. The Land Transport Authority said its Active Mobility Enforcement Officers also reminded 25 PMA users in Yishun about the new requirements. The updated rules lowered the speed limit to 6 kph, added size and weight limits, and require non-exempt users to hold a Certificate of Medical Need. Retailers may display, advertise and sell only PMAs with both registration and identification marks, and must verify a buyer's valid certificate or exemption. LTA said first-time offenders can face fines of up to S$2,000, up to three months in jail, or both.
