Singapore haze eases as inter-monsoon showers keep PSI moderate
What's next: Forecasters expect lighter, more variable winds and above-average rainfall in early November, reducing smoke drift from Indonesian fires.
Singapore's haze conditions eased by Oct. 31, with the 24-hour PSI staying in the moderate range and 1-hour PM2.5 readings in the normal band across the island. The National Environment Agency forecast the day's PSI at 51 to 70, while early-morning readings ranged from 14 to 40. Earlier in the week, western Singapore briefly recorded an elevated PM2.5 reading of 57 before it fell back. The Meteorological Service Singapore said inter-monsoon conditions are setting in, bringing lighter and more variable winds as well as more showers over Singapore, Sumatra and Kalimantan. Those changes make it less likely that smoke from fires in Indonesia will be carried toward Singapore.
