Singapore halts some Grab AV tests after Punggol near miss
What's next: regulators are investigating and suspended testing at similar junctions as Grab prepares a wider Punggol rollout in Q4.
Singapore’s Land Transport Authority ordered Grab to pause autonomous-vehicle testing at certain Punggol junctions after one of its shuttles nearly hit a schoolgirl during a left turn on Nov. 5. LTA said preliminary data showed the WeRide vehicle had detected two pedestrians and was tracking them before the child stepped off the curb. The vehicle then braked and steered right, and the onboard safety operator took control and continued braking to avoid the girl. The shuttle was testing a new route for Grab’s planned on-demand service in Punggol, which is due to expand to the public in the fourth quarter of 2026.
