Singapore halts some AV tests in Punggol after 2 near misses
What's new: regulators paused Grab left-turn testing and ComfortDelGro U-turn trials at a Punggol junction while they investigate.
Singapore's Land Transport Authority halted parts of autonomous-vehicle testing in Punggol after two near misses on Nov. 5 involving Grab and ComfortDelGro vehicles. In one case, a Grab vehicle nearly struck a schoolgirl while turning left after a light changed. LTA said the vehicle had detected two pedestrians, began braking and steered right when the child started crossing, and the onboard safety operator then took control. In a separate incident, a ComfortDelGro AV entered the path of another vehicle during U-turn testing at a junction in Punggol Field. LTA ordered Grab to stop testing at similar junctions and told ComfortDelGro to suspend U-turn trials there as a precaution while the cases are investigated.
