Singapore gives each child nearly S$70,000 under family support overhaul
What's new: The package replaces the Baby Bonus and Large Families schemes and extends support through age 17, with annual cash credits and a S$10,000 education top-up.
Singapore will provide nearly S$70,000 in total support for every Singaporean child from birth to age 17 under a new SG Child Support Package unveiled at the National Day Rally 2026. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong set out a plan that includes a S$10,000 Baby Gift, S$2,000 a year in Child Credits from ages 1 to 16, a S$5,000 First Step Grant for the Child Development Account and a S$10,000 top-up to the Post-Secondary Education Account at age 17. The package will replace the Baby Bonus Scheme and Large Families Scheme, and support will no longer depend on birth order. Government-backed preschool fees will also be cut to S$150 a month, while childcare leave for parents with children 12 and under will rise to eight, 10 or 12 days a year depending on family size.
