Singapore, Germany expand 5-pillar pact with industrial AI push

What's new: The updated plan also spans AI safety, research, energy transition and closer EU-ASEAN cooperation.

Singapore and Germany updated a five-pillar work plan on Tuesday to deepen cooperation on industrial artificial intelligence, broadening a strategic partnership forged in 2024. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said the two countries will focus on developing and deploying AI in manufacturing, logistics, energy systems and supply chains. The roadmap also covers political and security ties, trade and transport, research and innovation, and the energy transition and green economy. Wong said the 2025 EU-Singapore Digital Trade Agreement gives both sides a base for cross-border digital transactions, while Merz framed the visit as part of Germany’s push to stay competitive in a more insecure world.
