Singapore father jailed 9 months for abusing infant daughter

What's new: Court records said cameras captured two 2024 incidents, and seven other child-abuse charges were considered at sentencing.

A Singapore court sentenced a 35-year-old man to nine months in jail after he admitted abusing his infant daughter in two 2024 incidents at the family home. The father, who cannot be identified under a gag order protecting the child, slapped the girl’s buttocks repeatedly, threw a pillow at her face and, months later, picked her up and threw her onto the cot mattress. Prosecutor Vishnu Menon said the attacks were triggered by the baby’s crying and were recorded by a motion-activated camera. Seven similar charges were taken into consideration, including one involving the couple’s older daughter. The man’s former wife reported him in December 2024; the couple later divorced, and the two children are now in her care.
