Singapore driver jailed 32 weeks over 73 staged crash scams

What's new: The court also fined him S$6,000 and barred him from driving for 48 months after his release.

A Singapore court jailed Danial Ali Liaqat Ali, 28, for 32 weeks after finding he engineered traffic accidents to extract cash from other motorists. Prosecutors linked him to at least 73 road incidents between September 2019 and January 2024, most of them staged. He pleaded guilty to 12 charges including cheating, dangerous driving and inconsiderate driving, while 25 other charges were considered in sentencing. The court also imposed a S$6,000 fine and a 48-month driving ban after his release. Court documents said he tailed cars closely, failed to brake or accelerated into them, then demanded private settlements of S$180 to S$1,500. He also failed to report 29 accidents to police.
