Singapore driver faces 5 charges in 114 kmh crash into school bus

What's new: Police said the 29-year-old had been convicted in 2019 for drink driving and inconsiderate driving.

A 29-year-old man is due to be charged Thursday in Singapore over a 2024 crash in which his car, allegedly traveling at an average speed of at least 114 kmh, hit a school bus carrying Anglo-Chinese School (Junior) students. Police said the driver first stopped while going against traffic on Cavenagh Road, then sped away when officers approached. About 15 minutes later, he weaved through traffic on Bukit Timah Road, ran a red light at Sixth Avenue and struck the bus as it made a U-turn. The car then hit a lamp post and caught fire. Two boys, then 8 and 9, were hospitalized along with the driver and his three passengers. Police said he had consumed alcohol before driving.
