Singapore ministers pushed back against criticism over plans to build housing at Maju Forest and Gillman Barracks, arguing the sites are needed to meet demand over the next decade. Minister of State for National Development Alvin Tan told Parliament that development at both areas will proceed, though the final layout could still change after feedback is reviewed. Sustainability and Environment Minister Grace Fu later said her ministry does not hold the land-use planning mandate, which sits with the Ministry of National Development. The projects have drawn public opposition, with petitions gathering more than 57,000 signatures over concerns about green space, heritage and wildlife habitat.
