Singapore court jails woman 12 years for stabbing lover to death

A Singapore court sentenced Li Ye to 12 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to culpable homicide for killing her lover at a City Gate condominium in May 2024. Li, a Chinese national now 40, stabbed the 56-year-old man after their relationship deteriorated amid mounting financial strain and repeated fights over the apartment they shared near Beach Road. Prosecutors said the man had stopped covering expenses, used money meant for Li’s daughter’s school fees for foreign-exchange trading and refused to move out despite her demands. The court also heard that Li had tried to attack him with scissors days earlier. She was initially charged with murder before pleading guilty to the lesser offense.
