A Singapore court sentenced a 31-year-old man to nine years and 10 months in jail and eight strokes of the cane for abusing three boys, including a 6-year-old who suffered life-threatening injuries. The man, who cannot be named under a gag order, worked at his aunt’s private educational facility and cared for children living there. Prosecutors said he beat the youngest boy with a hanger more than 600 times, stomped on him, deprived him of food, forced him to drink his own urine and denied him medical care for three days. The child suffered rib, lung and kidney injuries and underwent dialysis. District Judge John Ng called the abuse brutal and said cruelty toward vulnerable children could not be tolerated.
