Singapore couple jailed 15-plus years for fatal abuse of 8-month-old son

What's new: The judge found both parents repeatedly shook, smothered and hit the baby for months, despite help from relatives and a nanny.

A Singapore court sentenced Chloe Gan Ci Xuan to 15 years and three months in prison and Neo Jia Ming to 16 years for the fatal abuse of their 8-month-old son, Trevor Neo Yu Hin. The High Court heard the baby was abused for most of his life, with both parents shaking, smothering and hitting him to stop his crying. Trevor died on Sept. 1, 2024, after Gan smothered him, hit his face and turned him face down on a mattress while Neo stayed in the room and did not intervene. Justice Hoo Sheau Peng rejected arguments that the pair were overwhelmed as new parents, saying they had family support and a nanny. Neo also received sentence on a domestic abuse charge for assaulting Gan.
