Singapore coroner rules 3-year-old boy's condo pool death accidental

What's new: CCTV showed a 46-second gap after the child rode away on a scooter, and the coroner said the nanny was not forthcoming.

A Singapore coroner found that a 3-year-old boy who fell into a condominium pool while riding a kick scooter died by accidental drowning, with no foul play involved. The child lost control near the 1.2-meter-deep pool on March 5, 2025, after riding away from a playground under his nanny’s watch. Court findings released June 11 said there was a 46-second gap before she went looking for him. CCTV contradicted parts of the nanny’s account, and Coroner Brenda Chua said she had taken an approach of “deflection” during the inquiry. A female passerby spotted the boy in the water and another passerby alerted the nanny, who jumped in despite being unable to swim. He was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and pronounced dead about an hour later.
