Singapore caps haze clinic bills at S$10 as subsidies start Oct. 12
Why it matters: The aid follows a rise in respiratory cases, and officials expect haze to linger for weeks even if it stays below 2015 levels.
Singapore will activate haze-related medical subsidies on Oct. 12, lowering out-of-pocket costs at polyclinics and participating Public Health Preparedness Clinic providers as air quality worsens. Patients age 18 and under, seniors 65 and older, and holders of Community Health Assist Scheme and Medical Fee Exemption cards will pay no more than S$10 for eligible treatment. Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation seniors will pay up to S$5, while people on Public Assistance will receive fully subsidized care. The covered conditions include asthma, bronchitis, conjunctivitis, allergic rhinitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and upper respiratory tract infections. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said hospitals and clinics have seen more respiratory cases and that the haze could persist for a few more weeks.
