Singapore-Batam subsea cable lands with 1.6 petabits of capacity

Singapore and Indonesia marked the completion of the Nongsa-Changi Cable, a 50-kilometer subsea link between Changi and Nongsa Digital Park in Batam that officials cast as a new digital corridor between the two countries. The cable is set to begin operating in September. Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong said the system will add more than 1.6 petabits per second of capacity and deliver latency of under two milliseconds. The project is backed by Telkom subsidiary Telin and Singapore-based BW Digital, with Nongsa Digital Park as a strategic partner. Officials said the link should help expand Batam's data-center and digital-services industry and support wider plans to develop Batam, Bintan and Karimun as a regional digital hub.
