Singapore bars action against 2 WP figures over 2021 COP falsehoods

Why it matters: Parliament said the legal time limit under the PPIPA has expired, closing its side of the Raeesah Khan saga.

Singapore's parliament will take no further action against Workers' Party figures Sylvia Lim and Faisal Manap over false evidence given to the Committee of Privileges in 2021, after the statutory deadline for penalties expired. Leader of the House Indranee Rajah told lawmakers on Tuesday that the Parliament (Privileges, Immunities and Powers) Act allows punishment only for offences from the preceding session, or the last session of the preceding parliament. Lim and Faisal testified in December 2021 during the first session of the 14th Parliament. Rajah said parliament had delayed action while criminal proceedings against WP chief Pritam Singh played out, and that the High Court later confirmed findings tied to the committee's case.
