Singapore Airlines weighs order for at least 50 Airbus or Boeing jets
What's new: The talks center on Boeing's 777X and Airbus' A350-1000, with options for dozens more planes.
Singapore Airlines is in early talks with Airbus and Boeing to buy at least 50 large long-haul aircraft for growth planned from the next decade. Industry sources said the carrier is seeking offers for more Boeing 777X jets, which seat about 400 passengers, or Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. The discussions could also include options for dozens more planes. SIA said it regularly reviews fleet renewal plans but declined to comment on any confidential discussions. Airbus and Boeing also declined to comment. The potential deal matters because SIA is a major wide-body buyer whose fleet choices can influence the market, and the talks may also test demand for larger future aircraft such as a possible Airbus A350-2000.
