Singapore Airlines weighs order for at least 50 Airbus, Boeing jets

Singapore Airlines is in early talks with Airbus and Boeing to buy at least 50 large wide-body jets for growth planned from the next decade. Industry sources told Reuters the carrier is seeking proposals for additional Boeing 777X aircraft or Airbus A350-1000 jets, and the deal could expand to include options for dozens more planes. The airline declined to comment on confidential discussions, while Airbus and Boeing also did not comment. A new order would be closely watched across the aviation sector because SIA is a major long-haul buyer. The talks may also help test demand for larger future models, including a possible Airbus A350-2000, as Boeing works through delays to the 777X program.
