Serbia jails parents of 2023 Belgrade school shooter in retrial
What's next: Both sides can appeal after the father got 14 1/2 years and the mother 35 months.
A court in Belgrade convicted the parents of the boy who carried out Serbia's deadliest school shooting and handed down prison terms again after a retrial. Father Vladimir Kecmanovic received 14 1/2 years for abuse of a minor and a serious public safety offense tied to the handguns used in the May 2023 attack. Mother Miljana Kecmanovic was sentenced to 35 months for neglect and abuse of a minor. Their 13-year-old son killed eight students and a security guard at Vladislav Ribnikar school, while another girl later died of her injuries. Because he was under 14, he could not be tried under Serbian law and has been held in a psychiatric hospital for minors.
