Senate passes $70 billion bill for ICE and Border Patrol

What's next: The measure goes to the House after Democrats failed to curb a disputed $1.8 billion fund tied to Trump allies.

The Senate approved a roughly $70 billion immigration enforcement package early Friday, sending to the House a bill that would finance Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol through the rest of President Donald Trump’s term. The measure passed 52-47 after an 18-hour vote-a-rama, with Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski the lone Republican to oppose it alongside Democrats. Efforts to add limits on the administration’s $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund failed, even though some Republicans backed those amendments. The package also left out $1 billion the White House sought for security upgrades and a ballroom project.
