Semarang Dug Dug Der dance festival draws 25,000 participants
Held at Lapangan Pancasila Simpang Lima, the event aims to set a Leprid record and mark the 81st anniversary of RI independence.
The Festival Tari Dug Dug Der Semarangan at Lapangan Pancasila Simpang Lima, Semarang, Jawa Tengah, on Sunday (9/8) involved 25,000 participants. The Semarang city government staged the mass performance featuring Dug Dug Der Semarangan dance, Maumere dance and creative ant dance. The event was intended to break a record from Lembaga Prestasi Indonesia Dunia (Leprid), while strengthening local cultural identity, celebrating diversity and enlivening the 81st anniversary of Kemerdekaan RI. Tens of thousands of residents crowded the Simpang Lima area in a festival also aimed at preserving and introducing the distinctive Semarangan dance to the wider public.
