Semarang AI waste innovation ranks among Guangzhou Award top 30
AISSA advanced from 381 entries submitted by 248 cities in 60 countries at the UCLG forum in Tangier, Morocco.
Semarang's Artificial Intelligence Solusi Sampah (AISSA) innovation was named among the 30 Exemplary Initiatives in the 7th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation 2026. The announcement came during the 2026 United Cities and Local Governments World Congress in Tangier, Morocco, on 25 June 2026. AISSA is an artificial intelligence-based waste management system developed by the Semarang city government. In the competition, AISSA passed a technical committee of nine international experts. The seventh edition of the Guangzhou Award recorded 381 innovations from 248 cities in 60 countries, the highest total in the event's history. Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti said the result showed the city's innovations were receiving international recognition amid competition among urban solutions, including digital transformation, public services and the environment.
