Scrap metal blast in Belitung injures 1, Jibom deployed
Police suspect a metal object exploded during weighing or cutting; the site was swept to prevent a follow-up blast.
The Brimob Bomb Disposal Team from the Bangka Belitung Islands Police secured the site of an explosion at a scrap metal collection yard on Jalan Padat Karya, Air Merbau Village, Tanjungpandan, Belitung Regency, on Sunday (25/10). The incident severely injured a scrap dealer, who was later evacuated to a hospital. Belitung Police Chief Satria Darma said police received the report at around 16.00 WIB, then set up police tape and coordinated with the Jibom unit to process the crime scene. Initial checks pointed to the possibility that one of the metal objects collected by the victim exploded during weighing or cutting. Police also swept the entire yard to make sure no other dangerous objects remained, including possible wartime ammunition or another source of a follow-up blast.
