School roof collapses in Peshawar, killing 33 students, teacher

The roof of a school in Peshawar, Pakistan, collapsed on Thursday (15/10), killing 33 people, including 32 students aged about four to 14 and one female teacher. At least 20 other students were taken to Lady Reading Hospital, while three children are still being treated for head injuries. Rescue 1122 teams and local residents evacuated students trapped under the rubble after one roof gave way and brought down another section, crushing classrooms below. Local officials suspect the building failed because of weak infrastructure, although the exact cause remains under investigation. The school owner has been detained. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
