SBY Misses 81st Independence Day Ceremony for Health Check in US

Former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono did not attend the proclamation ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's independence at Istana Merdeka on Aug. 17 because he was undergoing a medical checkup in Rochester, United States. In a video posted by the Instagram account @aniyudhoyono on Sunday, SBY also apologized for missing President Prabowo Subianto's state address at the parliamentary complex on Aug. 14. He said the examination was a routine annual checkup at Mayo Clinic, following the advice of the Presidential Medical Team, after prostate removal surgery in 2021. SBY said the series of examinations would continue until the end of August and that he aimed to return to Indonesia in September.
