Cartenz task force arrests KKB suspect in Freeport killing
YM was detained in Pasar Kago, Ilaga, after being listed as a fugitive in the March 11 shooting case at Grasberg, Mimika.
The Operasi Damai Cartenz 2026 task force arrested YM (24), a member of the armed criminal group in the Kepala Air area, Kodap III Ilaga, who is suspected of involvement in a shooting that killed PT Freeport Indonesia employee Simson Mulia. The arrest was made on Saturday (6/6) in the Pasar Kago area of Ilaga City, Puncak Regency. The case involving YM is linked to the March 11, 2026 shooting at the Ngapua Reklamasi Enviro Bunaken Grasberg area, Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua. Initial investigators said YM was suspected of monitoring the movements of security officers and residents with binoculars during the attack. Police said he had been on the wanted list and is now being questioned at the Puncak Police station. Investigators are charging YM under murder and accomplice provisions in the Criminal Code, while also examining possible unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
