Said Aqil launches 11-volume Historiography of Islamic Nusantara in Surabaya

The book is framed as an open scholarly study of Islam's role in Indonesia's education, law, trade and diplomacy.

The Lembaga Persahabatan Ormas Islam launched the book “Historiografi Islam Nusantara” by Said Aqil Siroj and Imam Pituduh at Hotel Deka, Surabaya, on Saturday. The 11-volume work traces the history of Islam in Nusantara and its contribution to the formation of Indonesian civilization. Said Aqil stressed that the study of Islam Nusantara should not stop at when Islam arrived or who spread it, but also examine how the teachings interacted with local culture, shaped social institutions and developed networks of knowledge. The book also places organizations such as Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah as active actors that preserve collective memory through archives, documents and historical experience. The launch was attended by Soekarwo and Emil Dardak, among others.
