Sahroni rejects KPK proposal to seize officials' assets

Komisi III says asset seizures must follow criminal proof as the Asset Confiscation Bill is rushed toward a 15 Desember 2026 target.

Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR Ahmad Sahroni rejected a proposal by KPK Deputy Chairman Johanis Tanak for state seizure of officials' assets not reported in LHKPN. Sahroni said the move could violate human rights if carried out without clear grounds and without proof of a criminal act. He said asset confiscation must still rest on legal process, including investigation and evidence, so it does not stray from the presumption of innocence. While rejecting the proposal, Sahroni still pushed for strict sanctions against officials who fail to properly report their wealth. The proposal emerged amid deliberations on the Asset Confiscation Bill in Commission III of the DPR. Johanis had earlier urged that assets belonging to officials not listed in LHKPN, or required reporters who fail to file, could be confiscated for the state. The DPR is now accelerating deliberations with a target for passage no later than 15 Desember 2026.
