Russian strikes knock out power for hundreds of thousands in Ukraine

What's next: The attacks came days before US-brokered talks in Abu Dhabi as Ukraine heads into another winter under pressure on its grid.

Russian drone and missile strikes damaged Ukraine's energy infrastructure overnight, cutting power to hundreds of thousands of homes and disrupting water and heating as temperatures dropped. President Volodymyr Zelensky said more than 30 ballistic missiles and over 170 drones hit 12 regions, with Kyiv suffering some of the worst damage. DTEK said more than 600,000 residents in Dnipropetrovsk lost electricity, while officials in the Kharkiv region said nearly 250,000 customers were without power after a drone strike on critical infrastructure. Nine people were reported hurt nationwide. Zelensky said the barrage hit critical infrastructure ahead of US-brokered trilateral talks involving Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 10 and 11.
