Russia, Ukraine back new US-mediated peace talks as soon as November

What’s next: Kyiv wants negotiators to meet by early November, while the Kremlin signaled talks would stay at a technical level.

Russia and Ukraine both indicated support for a new round of US-mediated peace talks that could begin as soon as November, potentially reviving negotiations that have been stalled since February. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said President Vladimir Putin told US envoy Steve Witkoff that Moscow was willing in principle to resume talks next month. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv backed a trilateral meeting of negotiating teams with the United States and wanted it held no later than early November. Ushakov said the proposed talks should focus on postwar security arrangements for Russia and Ukraine, but he also dismissed recent European and Ukrainian ideas as offering little useful progress.
