Russell Brand convicted on rape, 3 sex assault counts in London
What's next: He was taken into custody after bail was denied and is due to be sentenced Monday.
Russell Brand was convicted Thursday in London of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving four women, in a case tied to allegations dating back more than 20 years. Southwark Crown Court acquitted the actor-comedian of two rape counts and one count of attempted indecent assault. Judge Joel Bennathan ordered Brand into custody after rejecting bail and said he faces a significant prison term at sentencing on Monday. The 51-year-old had denied the charges. Prosecutors argued that Brand used his fame and status to exploit women. The jury of eight men and four women deliberated for more than eight hours over two days.
