Rupiah ends down 114 points at Rp18,128 per dollar

Oil's rise to around $74-$75 a barrel and safe-haven demand for dollars added pressure on Asian currencies.

The rupiah closed weaker by 114 points, or 0.63 percent, on Thursday at Rp18,128 per dollar, from Rp18,014 per dollar previously. In the morning, the rate had touched Rp18,066 per dollar. Pressure came from rising demand for the U.S. dollar as a safe-haven asset after tensions between the United States and Iran flared again. Middle East tensions also stoked concern about supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz and pushed crude prices to the $74-$75 per barrel range. Additional sentiment came from the June 2026 FOMC minutes, which highlighted persistent inflation pressure, keeping expectations for high The Fed rates in place. Bank Indonesia's JISDOR also weakened to Rp18,090 per dollar from Rp18,005. On the domestic side, Indonesia's foreign exchange reserves rose to $145.6 billion at the end of June.
