Rubio says Iran opened nuclear talks as Trump disputes media cutoff

What’s new: Tehran is discussing parts of its nuclear program it had previously refused to address, Rubio told senators.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio told U.S. senators Tuesday that Washington remains in indirect talks with Iran and that Tehran has, for the first time in his memory, agreed to discuss parts of its nuclear program it had long refused to put on the table. The testimony came as President Donald Trump rejected Iranian media reports that contacts had stopped. Iranian outlets Fars and Tasnim had reported that message exchanges through intermediaries had ended, with Tasnim also reporting that Iran would move to fully close the Strait of Hormuz. Rubio cautioned that any negotiations may still fail to produce a deal acceptable to the Senate or the American public.
