Thousands of anti-G7 protesters to hit Geneva before Evian summit

Swiss has closed 25 of 35 road crossings to France, while France deployed nearly 16.000 security personnel.

Thousands of anti-G7 protesters are scheduled to demonstrate in Geneva, Swiss, on 14 June, a day before G7 leaders begin a three-day summit in Evian, France. The No-G7 coalition, made up of more than 60 associations, labor unions and left-wing groups, said the action is meant to denounce fascism and imperialism. Geneva authorities are on alert to prevent unrest like the 2003 protests; shops, supermarkets, cinemas and university buildings have put up protection, several events have been canceled, and the main hospital has set up emergency tents. Swiss has closed 25 of 35 road crossings to France since 11 June, causing traffic jams. France has also deployed nearly 16.000 police, gendarmes, soldiers, firefighters and border officers.
