Rep. Tom Kean Jr. sets June 30 return after missing 100+ House votes

Why it matters: The New Jersey Republican holds a battleground seat in a closely watched midterm race.

New Jersey Republican Rep. Tom Kean Jr. plans to return to in-person work on June 30 after being away from Congress since March because of an unspecified medical issue. A political consultant for Kean said he would resume a full schedule and speak publicly that day about his condition. Kean last voted in the House on March 5 and has missed more than 100 votes during the absence, which drew scrutiny in Washington and in his district. His office has said he is still running for reelection and will face Democratic Navy veteran Rebecca Bennett in November in one of New Jersey's top congressional contests.
