Religious Affairs Minister inducts 10,000 Quran teachers at Wahdah congress

Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar inducted 10,000 Quran teachers at the opening of the 5th Wahdah Islamiyah Congress at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta on Saturday, 22 August 2026. The Quran instructors, who are cadres of Wahdah Islamiyah, will be deployed to communities to help address Quran illiteracy. Nasaruddin said the move aligns with the program of the Ministry of Religious Affairs' Directorate General of Islamic Community Guidance. He also said the problem cannot be handled by the government alone and requires the role of Islamic mass organizations. At the same event, Culture Minister Fadli Zon said the induction of 10,000 Quran teachers also has a cultural dimension and is tied to strengthening Islamic cultural expression in various regions.
