Relawan and Manggala Agni hold ceremony amid wildfire smoke
The Aug. 17 ceremonies in Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra, and Palangka Raya came before crews resumed patrols and firefighting.
Volunteers responding to forest and land fires and Manggala Agni personnel held a Red and White tribute ceremony amid thick wildfire smoke on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026. In Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra, Manggala Agni personnel from Daops Sumatera XIV-Banyuasin, Daops Sumatera XII-Muara Tebo, and Daops Sumatera XIII-Sarolangun joined the ceremony in Desa Sungai Rambutan, Kecamatan Pemulutan Barat, before returning to patrol and put out the fires. In Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, volunteers also held a ceremony in Kelurahan Petuk Katimpun, in a burned peatland area. The ceremonies at the two locations marked that the wildfire threat was still ongoing during the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
